Description
Very folky looking, the round framed tile depicts a man sitting on the floor, working at caning a chair seat. I think the working man was a common theme with old delft pieces. This is framed in what I believe is silver. I don't think it is 925, I think it is lesser purity or possibly pewter. I tested it but my solution is old but it doesn't attract a magnet. The frame is not marked. The tile piece has a stamp in blue on the back. It is from the Velsen factory but I can't make out what is on the scroll. The mark does say Delft Holland and Original in Dutch language so this was not an export piece. Purchased at an estate sale and it's very old, that's all I know. I've called this a wine coaster. During the late 1800s to about the 1920s these type of metal framed ceramics were popular as a set with a tray and a group of coasters. The size is perfect for what you would find to purchase in a modern day wine coaster- measures 4-3/4". It would also make a great table side coaster for your loved one who always brings a drink into the living room. The mark makes me think this is 20th century. Since I'm being too lazy to order new silver solution for now I'll go ahead and list this at a price that would be for a pewter frame and once I finallly get it together to order more silver testing acid I'll change the wording if I'm wrong. For now purchase at your own risk. It might not be 925 silver but it sure is pretty!Delft Dutch Pottery Blue White Wine Coaster Silver Framed Round Tile Working Man
